John Davenport (January 09, 2007) Dear All
As most of you will know, PRFC's dear friend John Davenport died on New Years Day. Our thoughts are with his wife Pauline and their children, Izzy, Rupert and Peter.
John was, to say the least, a wonderful ambassador of the game and a huge asset to our Club with the most infectious personality. The current Under 16s along with Kevin Church will tell you that he was a motivating, inspiring and dedicated coach as will all the minis and juniors who have been lucky enough to be in one of his coaching groups, not only at Pulborough for almost 20 years but at Sussex County Rugby and for those at St Marys Washington School too. Many of the volunteers in the junior section are here because of John's persuasive techniques and his never-ending enthusiasm. PRFC have a lot to thank him for.
John's funeral will be held at Worthing Crematorium at Findon on Friday at 11am with a celebration of his life at the Clubhouse afterwards. The Club have organised some flowers on behalf of all our members and Pauline has asked that in lieu of further flowers donations can be made to a Trust the family are setting up in John's name to assist children in the community to participate in rugby via Pulborough RFC. Donations can be made via HD Tribe in Storrington or there will be an opportunity at the Clubhouse on Friday and again on Sunday.
This Sunday the U16s have a home league match against Midhurst and have asked that we all honour John with a minutes silence at 11am prior to the kick off on the 2nd XV pitch. Could we ask all coaches and their age groups to come to the 2nd XV pitch just before 11am so we can stand together. The junior section of the Club have decided that an Award will be presented in John's name at the end of season day, it will then become an annual award and will be designed to congratulate a member showing the qualities John displayed throughout his years with PRFC. More details of this will follow.
